Fantasy Mode not working....cursor not working....

I have tried, downloaded the 1.01 version, and I have two 'big' problems.
First of all, the Fantasy Mode is not working. It allows me to go into the Fantasy Mode options (you know choosing your difficulty, candidate, etc.), but as soon as I click 'Start' it begins the music, but then the game crashes and goes back to my desktop.
Also, my cursor is ruined. Every single time I go into the game, it looks like it is trying to pull up an image, and it won't. Can someone please help me with this?

BTW: My computer is also going slower after I've downloaded. Does that have anything possible to do with the game? Thanks in advance. (I also installed Rise of Nations: Thrones & Patriots, could that have affected as well??)

We are probably going to need your dxdiag report and a .cra file from SmartException. You can grab smartException here:
https://www.stardock.com/products/smartException. To get the DXDiag report, go to Start->Run and then type DXDiag. Now press the Save all information button and send everything to support@stardock.com.

After I re-installed the game, it was back to normal. The cursor wasn't, but the Fantasy Mode was. I'll check it out...
